Accelerator physics for pedestrians
These pages are meant to give an idea of how an accelerator works. Hands-on simulations are provide
in the form of Java Applets. To be able to enjoy the pages, you will need a Java-enabled Web-Browser.
Test: to see if your browser will allow you to play with the simulations, check whether clicking in
the rectangle below changes its color.
- If clicking in the rectangle makes its color change from green to red , it's fine and you can proceed to the first lesson:
The effect of a focusing quadrupole
- If instead of a rectangle you have a text indicating that "your browser is java-challenged", then you won't be able to play the simulations.
- If you get a (possibly grey) rectangle which doesn't change color no matter how hard you click in it, you won't be able to play the simulations either.
If you found out it's your browser that is outdated, all is not lost: you can download the latest version of Netscape.
